University police officers are trained to use non-lethal weapons

Alabama State University Police Chief Huey Thornton doesn’t want to second-guess the actions of the University of South Alabama police officer who shot and killed freshman and Wetumpka native Gil Collar.

He does say, however, that certified police officers in Alabama are trained a progression for the use of force against suspects.
